Literacy Corner:Parent Tip #1
What is Title I?
According to the U.S. Department of Education, thepurpose of Title 1funding, “is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach, at minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.”Schools qualify for Title I Services based on the percentage of enrolled students in economic need. This qualification is based on the number of students in the free and reduced-price lunch program.
Any student enrolled, who needs extra academic help, is eligible for assistance. All students complete a universal screener three times per year. These test results along with teacher recommendations are used to identify students needing supplemental instruction.
Here at Thayne Elementary, we use the majority of our funds for our Title I paraprofessional team. With this team, we are able to offer small instructional groups to meet the needs of our students.
